1-for-25 shooting from beyond the arc mixed with just one field goal in the final 15:22 was not a recipe for success for the Bruins. No.14 seed Belmont fell to No.3 seed Georgia 53-36 in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday, Mar. 17.
Belmont trailed 30-18 at halftime but cut the lead to five at 34-29 early in the second half. However, Georgia stymied the Bruin offensive attack the rest of the way en route to a double-digit victory.
The Bruins shot 20.4 percent from the floor, while the Bulldogs only managed 33.3 percent. The two teams combined to miss 82 shots and turned the ball over 35 times.
Alysha Clark paced Belmont with a game-high 12 points and 13 rebounds.

For almost five minutes, Belmont (23-10) resembled a Cinderella team. However, over the next 35 minutes Georgetown (27-6) played like a legitimate Final Four contender. Despite a hard-fought effort by the Bruins, the overall size and speed of the Hoyas proved too much overcome as the prohibitive favorites rolled to an 80-55 first-round victory. Belmont head coach Rick Byrd was pleased with his team’s effort against the Top 10 club.
