The Belmont Bruins (23-9) will play the Georgetown Hoyas (26-6) in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament Thursday in Winston-Salem, NC. Both teams enter the Big Dance on a roll. Belmont has won seven straight – each by at least 15 points – and Georgetown has won 15 of 16, including an impressive 65-42 demolition of Pittsburgh in the Big East Conference Championship.

The Georgetown Hoyas are led by Big East Player of the Year and Tournament Most Outstanding Player Jeff Green. The jack of all trades is a 6-9 junior forward who averages 14.3 points per game while notching 6.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists.

Another potential match-up problem for the Bruins figures to be found in the 7-2 body of junior center Roy Hibbert. The massive post averages 12.7 points and leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per game.

The two teams did not play a common opponent this season. However, each team fell victim to a National Championship contender in last year’s NCAA Tournament. The No. 15 seed Belmont Bruins lost to No. 2 seed and national champion runner-up UCLA in the opening round. The No. 7 seed Georgetown fell to No. 3 seed and national champion Florida in the Sweet Sixteen.

Game time is still to be determined. Stay tuned to Belmont Vision Online for the most up-to-date announcements.
