While it certainly has distance in its favor, Bongo Java has more going for it than being mere steps from Belmont's campus. And, yes, we know that this is the world-famous location of the NunBun incident, but beyond all the hype lies a menu chock-full of caffeinated goodness to supply the spot's ever-revolving bohemian clientele with a large selection of tea, coffee, and specialty drinks.

"It's a great place to work because it's very casual," says Amanda Daeger, 3-year employee of Bongo.

"We have that wonderful porch outside and we can listen to any music we want because satellite radio is a joke. It can be a little haphazard sometimes but overall it is a really great place."

Bongo Java Roasting Company supplies this store and a few others in the Bongo family with its own unique blend of coffee. Specialty drinks include the Thrillah (double white mocha with mint) and the Mood Elevator (iced double mocha with hazelnut and whipped cream). The Apple Pie (cider, caramel, cinnamon, and whipped cream) provides an option for those who have not yet dared to pass the boundaries of Level 2. All specialty drinks run $3.93.

An ample menu of breakfast and lunch items makes it a popular hangout all day long. The upstairs plays host to the Bongo After Hours Theatre, an intimate setting in which local singers, songwriters, and bands share their musical gifts. Inspired artwork from area talent also lines the walls of this cozy coffeehouse, a required lounging spot for all new Bruins-in-training.
